SUBJECTS OF CSS

 CSS SUBJECTS

CSS exams consist of two categories, with 600 marks in each category 

Compulsory Subjects (600 marks): 

  • English Essay (100 marks) 

  • English Precis and Composition (100 marks) 

  • General knowledge (300 marks): This part is divided into three subjects: 

  •          General Science and ability (100 marks) 

  •         Current Affairs (100 marks) 

  •         Pakistan Affairs (100 marks) 

  • Islamic Studies for Muslims or Comparative Study of Major Religions for non-Muslims (100 marks) 

 

Optional subjects: Optional subjects (Each group has its own rules) 

From each group no more than 200 marks’ subjects can be chosen. 

GROUP I 

 

Each subject is of 200 marks. Only one subject can be selected. 

 

  • International Relations 

  • Political Science 

  • Accountancy and Auditing 

  • Economics 

  • Computer Science 

 

GROUP II 

No less or more than 200 marks shall be covered from this group. 

  • Geology – 100 marks 

  • Statistics – 100 marks 

  • Applied Mathematics – 100 marks 

  • Pure Mathematics – 100 marks 

  • Physics – 200 marks 

  • Chemistry – 200 marks 

 

GROUP III 

Only 100 marks’ subject can be selected 

 

  • Business Administration – 100 marks 

  • Public Administration – 100 marks 

  • Governance and Public Policies – 100 marks 

  • Town Planning and Urban Management – 100 marks 

 

GROUP IV 

Only 100 marks’ subject can be selected 

  • History of the USA – 100 marks 

  • European History – 100 marks 

  • British History – 100 marks 

  • Islamic History and Culture – 100 marks 

  • History of India and Pakistan – 100 marks 

 

GROUP V 

Only 100 marks’ subject can be selected 

  • Environmental Sciences – 100 marks 

  • Gender Studies – 100 marks 

  • Agriculture and Forestry – 100 marks 

  • Botany – 100 marks 

  • Zoology – 100 

  • English Literature 

  • Urdu Literature 


GROUP VI 

Only 100 marks’ subject can be selected 

  • International Law – 100 marks 

  • Criminology – 100 marks 

  • Philosophy – 100 marks 

  • Law – 100 marks 

  • Constitutional Law – 100 

  • Muslim Law and Jurisprudence – 100 marks 

  • Mercantile Law – 100 marks
